Endometrial cancer update
Jun. 17th, 2019 05:47 pmJust had my post-surgery followup appointment. This cancer was caught very early. It was slow-growing; it had not spread beyond the endometrium. My lab results were all good. My prognosis is great: stats for women in this population are 97% five-year survival.
For those who care about technical details, my cancer is described in the lab report as a ragged polypoid shaggy mass, 3 x 2 cm, that does not appear to be grossly invading into the myometrium.
Once again, I urge post-menopausal women with any spotting, however minor, to see your doc right away. Early diagnosis can make all the difference. Most of the 61,880 women diagnosed with endometrial cancer in the US this year will survive. 12,160 will not.
I'll have checkups every 4-6 months for five years, and once a year after that.
Tonight, a celebratory beer!
