I've been using an old icon for years. My hair has grown out, been cut off, and grown out again. Today's icon is completely fresh, but by tomorrow it will be obsolete, since tomorrow the hair gets the axe.

This will be the sixth time I've donated my hair. I don't grow it to donate it; I grow it because I like having long hair. I donate the hair when I want to have short hair again. It grows pretty fast, so when I get tired of having short hair, I can grow it out again.

I'm looking forward to the ease of short hair.

this is how to tell the two of us apart: for me short hair is about 80 times more difficult to deal with than long hair. also it grows very slowly. enjoy your haircut, though!

It's the length of time long hair takes to dry that's my sticking point. When my hair is short -- particularly when it's as short as it's going to be later today -- it dries very quickly. I'm currently walking between four and six miles a day, and working toward walking seven to ten miles a day. Waist-length hair is just impractical with this much sweat.

Me yesterday: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bhs86P-hhpf/. The amount of time it took to dry just that much hair (touching my shoulders) was so ridiculous I went and got about 1/3rd of it cut off.

I'm very impressed that you walk so much daily because I am monumentally lazy! Go you!

I miss the ease and weightless feeling of short hair! But now that my hair's gotten dry, it frizzes whenever it's much shorter than shoulder length. :/

I'm jealous. My hair has never grown past my shoulders. It's very fine and curly and dry - it just breaks off at a certain length. When I was in high school, long straight hair was the norm. I was abnormal.

Thanks! I have a goal to be able to walk the Hadrian's Wall Path in England in September, so I am completely motivated to keep gradually increasing my walking week by week.

The descriptors we apply to ourselves are generally not the same as the descriptors others apply to us. Given what you accomplish, I would not call you lazy.

Oh, how unfair. My hair has a different texture now than it had pre-menopause -- it tangles now, which it never did before -- but so far, that's the only big change. We'll see what happens once it turns grey or white.

When I was in high school, long straight hair was the norm, but what I wanted with a passion was short curly hair. One year, I set it with pincurls every single night to achieve that curliness. As an adult, I can't imagine enduring that regimen.

Wow!! I don't think I've seen you with long hair?? And here I thought my hair grew fast! I'd like to have short hair but I hate having to go for regular haircuts, and ironically find long hair less stressful since all I do is tie it up into a looped ponytail. Against all folk wisdom I also wash my hair at night and leave it to dry overnight too, because I often can't be bothered to take a hairdryer to it...
