kate_schaeferAre you coming to Potlatch? Do you have time to sit at the Clarion West scholarship auction table for an hour on Saturday, February 25th?
This year, I'm adding a quick sale feature to the auction for items we've had in inventory for a while or that I don't expect to draw much interest. I'm pricing many paperbacks at $1 each and hardbacks at $5 each and selling them without going through the auction process. In order to do that, I need to have people to sit at the CW table during programming on Saturday. It shouldn't be hardship duty, since the table will be in the programming room, so you'll be able to hear everything. During panels, people can browse the tables, but I intend to discourage purchasing except during programming breaks, because I don't want sales conversations disturbing the panels.
Another major change is that the auction will occur on Saturday evening immediately after the Trivia Bowl rather than on Sunday afternoon after the banquet. If you're coming to Potlatch just for the auction, remember to arrive on Saturday evening around 8:15 (or 7:30 if you want to see the Trivia Bowl).
The auction should be a lot of fun as well as being a major fundraiser for Clarion West. Our regular auctioneers, veteran bookseller and inveterate punster Tom Whitmore and former CW board member Jerry Kaufman, will be joined by Ellen Klages, Tiptree auctioneer and Nebula-award-winning Clarion South graduate.
A partial catalog is available at http://www.potlatch-sf.org/auction.html. I've been promised many other cool items, including an outrageous headdress made by Lauryn MacGregor, Infinite Matrix memorabilia, the Michael Swanwick T-shirt of Doom, and some really absurd chocolate.
