The 2011 Clarion West Write-a-thon came to an end last night, along with the 2011 Clarion West Writers Workshop in Seattle. Pages for the participating writers will stay up for a while, so click on over there to congratulate them for meeting their goals and support the workshop with a donation.

Instructors for next summer's workshop will be Mary Rosenblum, Hiromi Goto, George R. R. Martin, Connie Willis, Kelly Link and Gavin Grant, and Chuck Palahniuk. Application season won't open up for a few months yet, so you have plenty of time to polish up your stories.

But wait! The 2011 Clarion Write-a-thon supporting Clarion Writers Workshop in San Diego is still in progress, as is that workshop. The writing season comes later in the south, because they have to wait for the migration of the elephant seals. While I am a rabid fan of Clarion West, I'm also a temperate and reasonable fan of Clarion in San Diego, and they have a cubic buttload of fine writers participating in their Write-a-thon as well. I have some recommendations of writers to support::

Andy Duncan attended Clarion West, has taught both workshops, and is participating in both Write-a-thons, for seven total weeks of writing goals instead of the standard six.

I personally forced Geoff Landis to be in the Write-a-thon, so I'd better support him there. He's up for a Hugo next month, so you could support him, too, to distract him from practicing his acceptance speech/gracious congratulation of someone else.

I don't know a thing about Nicola Arthurs except what I've read in her profile, and that she, too, is participating in both Write-a-thons. I bet she does NaNoWriMo, too, and I bet we'll hear more from her eventually. Same thing for Joanne Huspek.

Leslie What, Karen Joy Fowler, Nancy Etchemendy, Justin Whitney, and Liz Argall (and probably others I don't know about) worked really hard to make the southern Write-a-thon happen. I am intimately familiar with the amount of work that goes into an event like this, and I know they can use all the encouragement, praise, and support they can get.

Edited to add: And Keffy Kehrli! Keffy attended Clarion in San Diego, but he volunteers at Clarion West in Seattle, since that's where he wears his fedora.

I gotta stop looking at the list now.

You can donate to either workshop online or by sending a check through the mail (my preferred method). All donations to either workshop are tax-deductible in the US. Your donations will pay off in later years through stories written by writers who attend the workshops.

Thanks!
