We've just had a party. Everyone has gone home now. I think they all went home happy, but one can never tell. We, at any rate, are quite happy ourselves. All the champagne is gone, as is all the smoked salmon. The empty bottles and glasses will keep until morning, and the BBC world service will tell us quite enough news to get our teeth brushed and us into bed.

We've been married twenty years, just about. We're cheerful about the prospect of another twenty or forty. Thanks for all your friendly support, you all, and so to bed.

Yes, we left very happy to have attended your party, and catch up with folks.

Thank you for having it.

And your marriage to Glenn was one of the reasons we wanted to be married in your back yard. Yeah!

Oh, I'm glad you and Julie came. I wanted to look at Julie's pictures of Alaska, but I also wanted to wander around and do the host thang of never quite being a satisfactory part of any conversation, so I did that instead. I hope there is another opportunity to see the pictures.

Oh, sleep now. Sleep sleep sleep. Why are you still up, you silly person?

(And you can figure out which of us is the silly person... or both...)

I'm glad to hear that you guys went to the party, Luke. Does that mean that maybe you and Julie would like to help us plan this year's Halloween party, like we did last year? Andy has said, barring an act of God, we could plan on having it at their place. It would be the regular 1st Saturday Vanguard gathering/Halloween party.

Yes, we're planning on it. We just haven't, you know, bothered to say so yet. ;>

Thanks! It's amazing how fast time goes once you reach the age where you talk about how fast time goes by and how tall children are getting.

I don't know any two people who seem more perfectly designed for each other. The image I have is of superb hand-jointed carpentry, the "no nails" kind, where the pieces of wood are sanded and shaped to hold together simply by their design.

Congratulations!

Thank you. It's mostly luck and mostly hard work and mostly having learned some things from other choices we made before making this choice. And then it boils down, again, to mostly luck. We know how lucky we are; our merits lie in being able to appreciate the luck, but we know deserve it no more than anyone else. No less than anyone else, as well; everyone should get to be this lucky.

Thanks! You and Amy seem to do fine, too.

We need to arrange the return of Katie's bag-o-books soon, particularly since it seems to include a good share of her allowance and her library card.

I really wish we had left for Seattle right after Wiscon. I think we're going to plan it that way next year. I'm sure it was a great party, wish we could have been there.

Congratulations on the twenty years.

Mazel Tov.

I was just thinking of you. I wish I could have been there, but reading of it now, well it made me feel better.
