A little over a year ago, my friend akirlu put together a CD she called "Gaudete 'Til You Drop". It contains some large number of performances of "Gaudete" along with a bunch of other Christmas-related songs that don't sound like anything you'll ever hear on a store's sound system.

It is one of the most useful and durable seasonal gifts I've ever received. It comes in particularly handy after accidental radio exposure to something noxious like "Mambo Santa".

you reminded me of an electronic version someone pointed me to to download a few years ago so i had to go play it. that's the only version i've ever heard--i never knew of the song before that.
