Things I saw today

Just now, as I came home from my granddaughter's piano lesson, there was a hummingbird at the crocosmia lucifera in my front yard. It skittered up to about twelve feet in the air when I approached, then zoomed up above the house, darted toward the back yard, paused and pivoted, then flew toward and over me and away up the street.

William Safire had an editorial in the New York Times condemning the Supreme Court's refusal to hear Judith White and Matthew Cooper appeal of their contempt of court sentences. It's always nice to see a principled conservative stand up for civil liberties. Safire irritates me often, but I'm with him on freedom of speech and the serial comma.

And here I am, posting to LiveJournal.

That's a sweet description of the hummingbird. I wonder if we'll get any.

Last night at dinner, I heard a muzak version of a song by Green Day, and here's you blogging on LJ. Apocalypse can't be far behind.

And it's gratifying to hear that Safire can still find his principles now and again; lately he spends most of his time shilling for the kleptocrats and it's so ugly to watch.

You're here!

Hello.

We used to have hummingbird feeders in California. If I owned my own place, I would have bird feeders all around. And indoor cats. They live so fast, those little birds.

*wow*

Kate with a granddaughter who takes piano lessons. (Don't mind me, I'm just being reminded how old I am.)

I saw my first hummingbird in person on my sister's back porch about six weeks ago. I could wish for a garden with hummingbirds, I could even plan for one.

Good to hear you here - and seeing you at Wiscon.
