If one has a computerized sewing machine, even a very old computerized sewing machine, and something goes wrong with it, one cannot diagnose the problem oneself. One will have to wait until Monday at 9:30 am.

One had a number of things all pinned together and ready to sew.

Dagnabit.

I just started reading Bird Cloud by Annie Proulx last night and she has a quote that goes, "For years I sewed my own clothes until computers made sewing machines so complicated and cranky the fun was gone."

Sewing is still fun, but it's definitely a different kind of fun. The sewing machine lady pointed out that 20 years is a really long time for a motherboard to last, and then she offered me a generous trade-in on the old machine. She spoiled the effect of the generous trade-in by cheerfully telling me that I'd have had the same generous trade-in for any random old broken-down Kenmore, because the only old sewing machines that are worth anything are the Singer Featherweights.

I took the generous trade-in.
